News archive ![]() <-newer items | older items-> March 2009: Tolkien Seminar 2009 in Hannover This year's Tolkien Seminar will be held in the Leibniz University in Hannover from 24th to 26th April. The topic will be Conflict, Violence and War in Tolkien / Konflikt, Gewalt und Krieg bei Tolkien. The event is organised by the German Tolkien Society (DTG) with support and co-operation of the Walking Tree Publsihers. Though numerous melodies for his poems have been composed, sung, played and recorded, secondary literature on Middle-earth hardly mentions the subject. This fascinating topic provides ample scope for academic exploration of various aspects of the significance and nature of music in Tolkien´s works, which can extend from general areas such as the power of music or the art of music to today´s interpretations of Middle-earth music. 'In a hole in the ground ...' The conference will be held at the same place it was last year, the University of Jena (Germany) from 25 to 27 April 2008. The event is co-hosted with DTG.
